Cairns Crocodiles 2025

UNSW SMaRT Centre Director Prof Veena will speak at Cairns Crocodiles 2025 on 14 May 2025.

Event hosts say: 'Whether it’s inspiring sessions on resilience and creativity to thought-provoking conversations on transforming marketing strategies, this year’s event will bring together an unparalleled mix of industry trailblazers like no other.'

" “From Mumbai to Singapore and from New Zealand to New York, the speaker lineup and hot topics so far look set to make this year’s event the biggest and best yet, Cairns Crocodiles Content Director Pippa Chambers said.'

Veena's talk, as part of the "Turning Green to Gold: The Future of Sustainability" session, will highlight that using recycling innovations such as UNSW SMaRT Centre's MICROfactorie^TM Technologies and its Green Steel^TM Polymer Injection Technology that recover valuable materials from waste and reform them into new manufacturing feedstock and products are central to help achieve the sustainability needed for the future.

And she will highlight SMaRT's work on researching solutions for the fight against discarded ‘ghost’ nets and other fishing marine debris in northern Australia.

Session to be hosted by Sarah Keith, featuring:

• Prof. Veena Sahajwalla, pioneering scientist and inventor
• Caroline Wood, Head of Marketing at Fever-Tree
• Bella Ericson, Brand Manager at Vitasoy Australia

'Together, they'll explore how innovation, leadership, and bold thinking are shaping the future of sustainability — and how businesses can turn "green" into real "business growth." '

Veena also features in this Mavens feature story on "10 Women Making Cairns Crocodiles Unmissable in 2025".
