The UNSW SMaRT Centre has been contributing to the CIRCO “Creating business through circular design” training program run by Planet Ark in conjunction with UNSW.
The recent CIRCO Challenge Workshop involved attendees undertaking an interactive design sprint on circular economy innovation.
Five amazing student teams presented their creative circular economy solutions, each showing impressive problem-solving and teamwork
SMaRT Director Prof Veena helped judge the workshop teams and inspired attendees with details about SMaRT's various sustainability-inspired waste and recycling innovations, such as its multiple MICROfactorieTM Technologies.
The full-day workshop covered a wide range of circular economy topics but focused on establishing business models and using design strategies to reimagine and rebuild the current systems in place.
UNSW Design student Ella Tang said of the workshop: "A key takeaway from this workshop was that recycling is just the surface level action and that we really need to face the challenge of considering and designing for our systems to be truly regenerative."
The day was organised at UNSW under the leadership of the Pro Vice-Chancellor Societal Transformation & Equity SDG team, the UNSW SDG Steering Committee, and the UNSW Business School.
