SMaRT leader named a top Australian researcher and innovator

UNSW SMaRT Centre DIrector Prof Veena Sahajwalla has been named a top Australian researcher and innovator as part of a publication recognising International Day of Women and Girls in Science.

Veena's recognition reflects her leadership and work at the UNSW SMaRT Centre pioneering the science of microrecycling R&D creating various MICROfactorieTM technologies that recover valuable materials from waste and reform them into new products and feedstock for remanufacturing.

SMaRT's work and results are recognised the world over including through bodies like the World Economic Forum and has resulted in receiving many prestigious awards.

Publishing the list, Women's Agenda said: "Australia needs more women not just studying STEM, but shaping its future across research and innovation.

"And we need to see these women in action!

"So to mark International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we’re elevating and celebrating some of the country’s most inspiring women in science.

"From neuroscience and cancer research, to marine ecology, renewable energy, and materials innovation, these trailblazers are driving breakthroughs, mentoring the next generation, and showing what’s possible when women’s talent and determination are supported."
