SMaRT joins advanced manufacturing advice service

UNSW SMaRT Centre has joined an advanced manufacturing advice service to be run by the Advanced Manufacturing Growth Centre (AMGC) as part of the Federal Government's Industry Growth Program, with a key SMaRT partner also awarded funding to boost use of SMaRT's Green Ceramics MICROfactorieTM Technology.

The Industry Growth Grogram (IGP) provides an Advisory Service for startups and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) undertaking innovative commercialisation and/or growth projects that are within the priority areas of the Australian Government’s National Reconstruction Fund (NRF) and help build Australia’s manufacturing capability for the future.

The AMGC consortium was awarded $1.9 million as a new Industry Partner Organisation (IPO) as part of the Australian Government's IGP, aimed at growing Australian manufacturing activity, with the AMGC and its partners to focus on developing IGP recipients across Transport, Defence and Value-Add to Resources.

In an announcement of the news, Minister for Industry and Science Ed Husic said: “I’m pleased to see AMGC ... join the IGP stable of Industry Partner Organisations, with their expertise supporting Aussie manufacturers to realise their potential.

“We’re serious about backing local know-how, that’s why we’re ensuring growing businesses have the support they need to increase our manufacturing capability and keep more jobs here in Australia.”

Managing Director of AMGC, Dr Jens Goennemann, said: "AMGC has a track record for working cross-industry and cross-discipline to deliver positive outcomes for industry. Our appointment as an Industry Partner Organisation will complement our ongoing commitment to Australian manufacturers.”

SMaRT's Green Ceramics commercial industry partner was also awarded almost $1 million in the same funding announcement to accelerate manufacturing of its Green Ceramics products using SMaRT Green Ceramics MICROfactorieTM Technology.
