SMaRT Ghost Nets report highlights solutions

The UNSW SMaRT Centre with not-for-profit partner TierraMar has completed a study for the Australian Government on improved removal and processing of abandoned, lost or discarded fishing gear (or ghost nets) from Australia’s northern waters.

The comprehensive study not only examines the problem and impacts on rural and remote Indigenous and other communities, but various solutions including technologies such as various MICROfactorieR 'waste to product' innovations so the debris can be reformed into products enhancing local community outcomes not just for the environment, but to create social and economic benefits, too.
