Helping innovation in NSW

The UNSW SMaRT Centre provided input into the consultation for the newly released NSW Innovation Blueprint 2035 – a landmark strategy to cement NSW’s position as the innovation powerhouse of Australia and a leader in high-value industries.

And SMaRT Centre Director Prof Veena joined an event with NSW Minister for Innovation, Science and Technology Anoulack Chanthivong and business leaders David Thodey, Kate Pounder in talking about the importance of innovation.

Veena spoke about her vision for a sustainable future, highlighting the importance of creating a circular economy and how using waste as a resource must be at the centre of our manufacturing future and innovative decarbonisation efforts, in collaboration between researchers and industry.

She highlighted that using innovations such as UNSW SMaRT Centre's recycling and MICROfactorieTM technologies that recover valuable materials from waste and reform them into new manufacturing feedstock and products through collaborators, are central to help achieve the sustainability needed for the future.

The SMaRT Centre was involved in the consultations for the newly released report, and highlighted the importance of supporting innovative technologies for waste and recycling being developed in collaboration with researchers and industry.
