The problems besetting the supermarket plastic recycling scheme have come as no surprise to a leading re-manufacturing engineer. Redcycle has stopped collecting soft plastics because it can't currently get them recycled. Professor Veena Sahajwalla says retailers must commit to selling the recycled materials, in order for the re-manufacturing industry to flourish.

The environment minister has put businesses and manufacturers on notice over their recycling practices and those who haven't heeded warnings will now face greater regulations.
